Why Facebook is evil and I'll never forgive Melanie for telling me to join

Four reasons.

1.Because high school friends can find you and they will post lovely montages like this:

Can you find me? That's right, there, in the blue. Hang all over him, you little tart.

2. You will spend far, far too much time talking to said high school friends you haven't seen in 20 years and other people who write on your wall. As if you didn't spend enough time online. Get back to work, slacker.

3. People can kidnap you. I haven't quite figured that one out yet, but I've been bound and gagged in a potato sack, accosted with a spicy burrito and taken to Cancun, and handcuffed and thrown into a box. Scary.

4. You get a sad reminder that other people still have more friends then you. What else is new.

So, will you friend me? Ohpleaseohpleaseohplease? I'm Wendy Cebula.

What a cute you were! But I'm concerned about the dude in the lower-left corner, white tank, blue shorts...

Cutie. That was supposed to say cutie.

You reminded me why I'm NOT on Facebook...except for that nifty little fake one my son made for my husband and I. :)

LOL to Janna.

Laughing! SO TRUE...I was never on FB until maybe a month or so ago, when some of my theater friends talked me into it -- at first, I was inundated with all kinds of "requests" and and and...finally, I learned you could ignore without them knowing it ..teheeh - they said, "huh? you aren't ignoring some of them? geez Kat, you can't do them all! IGNORE!" ahhhhhh
laughing...

By the way - you were cute, which the "were" isn't to say you arent still cute - anyway...laughing...

Janna--He's on FB too. I'm sure he's thrilled about that picture.

Angie--Oh, I said the same thing before. It will draw you in eventually.

Kathryn--I was kind of wondering about that. Glad to know they never see you ignored them That WOULD be like high school all over again.

Wendy! I'm so glad you joined - please forgive me? :)

I ignore practically all the requests I get. I like movie quizzes and I do the kidnap thing (as you are well aware) but that's about it. Oh, and the writer thing. The other stuff is too much clutter for me!

Yeah, those old pics will get you. There are a few on there of me that are not very flattering!

Wendy, you do get over the initial buzz and discover that it's a great way to keep track of people.

I don't go on every day, but if you sift through Janna's and Melanie's friends, you might figure out who I am... ;o)

WendyCinNYC said...

Melanie--I guess I'll forgive you. In time.

Colby--I wanna see!

Janet--Found you! Found you! Either that, or there is some other Janet out there thinking "Who is THIS?" at my friend request.

Janet said...

LOL! Yup, my inbox says you've found me. But it might take me a day or two to get back to Facebook. There is AW, and blogs, and MySpace, and email, and - oh yeah - writing.

And dishes and laundry and ...

*sigh*

At least I haven't yet fallen into the evil maw of Twitter.

Only old college pics of me have surfaced in Facebook, mostly because I am not that photogenic and I didn't have any real friends in HS (yes, I was THAT guy, got over it). Since coming out of the mental fog I have operated in the last few years, Facebook has attracted my curiosity.

Of course, a pic of me wearing my beer goggles could surface at any moment...ah yes, those wacky college years!

Do we ever get over wanting to be the most popular, beautiful, smartest, etc? I think not, she said as she checked her FB page to see if there were any new friend requests... (Actually, I'm lying. I don't have FB only MySpace for my music. But, my kids have it so I know what you're talking about. Too funny!)

Yeah, I so hate weird high school people looking me up!

And Facebook suddenly got less cool when it was blocked at work, which was ok, you know wasting time at work instead of wasting time writing.

That's a cute picture!

I fell victim to the "embarassing picture posted" syndrome recently. My old sweetheart posted a grade school picture of me in my full-on awkward phase, and in fact "tagged" me in it, so all of my friends were notified of the monstrosity. Fortunately, the FB gods allowed me to remove the tag, so hopefully no one else knows where to find it now! (He probably thought it was a cute picture, bless him.)

I'll go friend you. Unless I already did. I might have...

I hate that "friend" is a verb, but "make Facebook friends with you" is too much typing.

Rafael--Beer goggles, LOL. I haven't heard that phrase in a while.

Debbie--I'm not sure we ever learn the lessons from high school. Well, me, at least.

Benjamin--I can't imagine why any work enironment would allow FB. Talk about a drain on productivity.

Kristina--Yay! You friended me and now we're friends.

And then those HS "friends" (or elementary school) check out your blog and know even MORE about you! LOL. Love the blog, Wendy. I'm envious of your talent for writing and impressed that you are putting yourself out there. I hope you get published in every way you wish!

It's crack, I tell you. Facebook is cyberspace coated crack with sprinkles.

That said, I am glad to have found you! :-)
