You probably all saw this bit of crappy news, so I'm not going to dwell on it. It's just too depressing. And if you haven't, sorry for ruining your day.
I'll be taking off tomorrow for Thanksgiving break and I doubt I'll have much time for blogging. We'll be visiting my parents, so I'm off the hook for cooking the Big Meal again this year.
My job is to pick up the turkey. The poor thing probably meets his death sometime today. He's been picked out at the turkey farm down the road from my parent's house. It's kind of sad to drive by and see the turkeys grow from cute little chicks into adult turkeys strutting around the yard, all full of confidence. Then one day--*poof*-- gone.
Don't worry, though, I've viewed the Sarah Palin Turkey Massacre and I know what to expect. It's almost enough to make you go vegan. Almost.

Saw that news, I guess all we can do is keep writing & polishing that manuscript in the meantime. Can't last forever? Staying home for the holiday, cooking the turkey. Have a nice Thanksgiving.
I hadn't heard! That's virtually earth-shattering. They're such a HUGE company! Agh.
We'll be celebrating with my family. Thank goodness my sister adopted the holiday as hers; I'm not willing to tackle the entire spread.

I hadn't heard about that either! I agree with the article interviewees that this is quite a drastic measure. Though, it does look like the directive was to stop aquiring technical manuscripts, unless I read it wrong. Either way, I think it's something where they went too far.
I saw that stupid Palin video also and I too thought for a minute of becoming vegan, but it passed once I thought of Thursday. I look at all of this as a dark part of life as a meat eater. Turkey is so good.
That was also news for me. Ugh. But I guess we can't be surprised.
Your thanksgiving sounds wonderful! We don't have any plans since they don't celebrate here and I don't have an oven. We did talk of at least going out to eat, so there's that. Have a great long weekend!
From what I've heard on (via the internet, so it's suspect) HMH is leveraged up the yin yang and they need to free up some cash. I just emailed my husband to see if he can get some info about that, and see how the other big publishing houses compare. He always seems to have access to that kind of thing.

I just made T-Day plans! Another American friend is back in town so we're going to check out a new Italian restaurant. I know, it's not turkey, but it beats sitting home alone!
Hope your holiday is "stuffed" with great things/people. We'll be doing the traditional "Meals on Wheels" fill-in for regular volunteers in the morning, then gathering for the family feast around noon.

That news makes me sad, too, but I feel like panicking is only going to make things worse. Press on, we must! There's still plenty of others out there. A blow, but not the knock out blow.
oh man, totally off topic, but I get it! Your name is Wendy Pinkston Cebula. Here I was for months trying to figure out what the blog url stood for. I thought it had something to do with loving the color pink a ton. And cebula was celiberal in a different language. That was my best guess. Then today out of nowhere BAM! I so get it.
AC--Ha! You are right. I actually don't like the color pink, but I guess I'm stuck with it in my name. And "cebula" also means "onion" in Polish. Glamorous.
Rachel--Happy Turkey Day to you, too. Well, I guess the *turkeys* aren't too happy, but whatever.
