I always have such high hopes for summer as I walk by little boutiques. Flirty little dresses and chic sandals--they beckon. Or perhaps something like this:
That's me and my fashionable pretend friends, just out for a day of shopping, some lattes, and maybe a pedicure. But after a few weeks of writing solo and the schleppery that is my life, I usually end up more along the lines of this:
Okay, well maybe not THAT bad, but it captures how I felt showing up for tennis camp pickup in my dirty running shorts just to meet my daughter's adorable Brazilian coach. And all his Brazilian friends. Oh yeah, hi. I'm frumpy. Nice to meet you.
I mean, I'm not going to dress up next time for them or anything. That's a little too Mrs. Robinson. But jeez. I need some maintenance work.
That's it. I'm calling for a haircut tomorrow.

Funny! The contrast is startling to say the least.
Like gauchos and a blue trench coat would have been better for camp pick-up? ;) Go easy on yourself, doll.
please tell me you have a couple of those hawaiin shirts hanging in your closet...
I'd be scared of anyone that tall and thin.
ralfast--There are times when I feel like the first group of ladies. This would not be one of them.
Janna--Oh, I've seen some fancy kid-retrieving getups, for sure.
Colby--I think I used to have a Hawaiian shirt, at some point back in the 80s.
spamwarrior--I'd be scared of anyone drawn in pencil, too!
Mani/pedi time!
It's after noon and I'm sitting at my desk, hair askew and in my pj's. My husband came home for lunch and his raised eyebrows and slack jaw said it all. Hey, I can't help it if I get on a roll when I'm writing. Sounds like you might be in a similar place. This, too, shall pass. You'll be back to fab in no time!
Yeah, I have been trying to shower and wear real clothes to work lately. Although, I can't claim to look put together even when I do. It's the curse of being a writer. :)
Been there done that, LOL! Ever notice the one time you go out of the house with no make-up, in your baggy sweats and hair in a ponytail, you see everyone you know?!
Suzan
I would totally dress up for the Brazilian coach. Nothing showy, but presentable. :P
I try to always look presentable, but I've definitely let myself go living here. This past week was nice -- I was like myself again!
Angie--Absolutely!
Amy--If I could get on a writing roll, it would be worth it. I'm more on a writing crawl.
Allie--You have to dress up to show off that cute blonde hair!
Suzan--Of course! That's always how it works, isn't it?
Melanie--Glad you are back!
