Hello, my name is Wendy, and I'm a BlackBerry addict

I've been trying to keep my obsession with agents under control, at least in public, but I think it's time for an intervention. Can someone please figure out a way to keep me from my computer and BlackBerry so that I'll stop checking my inbox? And, by the way, checking QueryTracker doesn't make agents respond any faster than they normally would, did you know that?

I was in a yoga class this week and I heard my BlackBerry go off (I forgot to silence it--honest! I'm not that woman.) It just beeps once for incoming email, so I didn't have to sheepishly run over and shut it up. But what did I think about for the entire remainder of the class? I wonder if that's a response to a query or partial. Not exactly very zen, right? I'm sure you know what it was, by the way... f&#^$ing spam.

I need to practice what I preach and get going on my next WIP. It's all plotted out and ready to go. I just need to focus. Ohhhmmm.

The good news is you get over the obsession after a few weeks/months. ;) Excellent idea to start work on the next project!

Oh, gosh, good luck with this one. I am in the same boat as you. It's been a while since I've received a 'request', so when I get an email from agents, I usually know what it says before I open it.

ugh.

(oh, ps: It's 'Woodsie'

All I do is check my email. I even read the messages in the spam folder word-for-word, just in case.

I check my spam folder, too. You never know if you might miss something from an agent, or a good deal on Viagra.

The head game I play with myself when I DO see something from an agent is to immediately say "It's a no. Get ready for a rejection." Then if it's a request, HOORAY!

I just have a cellphone. I don't want constant internet connection. I don't even text.

Am I some sort of freak?

I can top ferret - I don't have a cell phone. :) BUT, I don't leave home very often so I do sprint to the computer whenever it dings with new mail. (no I'm not querying). Wendy, I think your current addiction is completely reasonable.

Awwww! I hope you hear something soon, Wendy! Sometimes this business makes me feel like I'm in high school trying not to sit by the phone and wait for my boyfriend to call.

Case in point of why it's good that I did NOT get a blackberry. I thought about it, but then I pictured myself doing just this and decided against it, heehee :)

Yes, it's very much like high school. I find myself wondering Has she read it? When will she read it? Does she like it? Maybe it starts too slow?

Other than the fact that it feeds my OCD tendencies, I do love my BlackBerry. But I HATE my husband's even though he uses it for, you know, work. We've made a rule not to check it when the kids are around because it can easily get out of control. No checking it in bed (seriously!), or at dinner.

Oy, we sound pathetic!

I find immersing myself in writing or revising or research passes the time surprisingly fast. You look up, and an 2 hours have passed. Then you can sneak an email peek!

Didn't Tom Petty say 'The waiting is the hardest part?' We all obsess. Don't worry about it. If you start your new WIP, it will probably help take the edge off.

Have a friend change your password so only they can check it!! :) Cruel...but it could be affective.

Oh yes, that reminds me. My other current obsession is checking the stock market.

That's not happy.
