Off to See the Fifes & Drums

I'll be away from a computer for the next few days (I'm a little concerned about having withdrawals, but a blog-free detox might do me good.) I'm driving down to Williamsburg, VA to do some tourin' and some learnin' about American history with the husband and kiddos. The girls are ridiculously excited about the trip, primarily because of the Felicity series of American Girl doll books. ("Do you think she'll be there?" "Felicity would be long dead, honey." No, I didn't really say that.)

In the meantime, I recommend you pick up David Sedaris' new book When You are Engulfed in Flames. I'm in the middle of it now and it's kept me up late into the night, snickering.

If I see anything more exciting than people dipping candles and making bread in a hearth, I'll post photos.

I went to school near Wilmington (a couple hours away) and went there for a night, but never made it to the historic area. Have a great trip!

Oh, and LOL at the American Girls!

I've always wanted to visit Williamsburg. I used to visit Old Winston-Salem quite a bit, but it doesn't even come close I bet. Have fun on your trip!

Thanks. I just checked out the forecast and it's going to be 103 degrees. Oh goody!

Is the Sedaris book good? I was kind of creeped out by the cover.

I hope you had a great time in Williamsburg and didn't melt....

elrena--It was very good. I still prefer Dress Your Children in Courderoy and Denim, but this was great as well. The last story is about him quitting smoking, thus the cover.

And thanks, everyone, for the well wishes for my trip. It was so, so, so hot. Nice, though, and I kept the complaining about the heat to a minumum, which is quite a feat for me. It was 105 at Busch Gardens.

Did I mention it was hot?
