Hey, L.A. What's up with the hats?

Seriously, I must have seen at least 40 girls in Los Angeles wearing these hats last week. Some were straw, some felt, and one particularly ugly hat was bright red with a cobalt trim. A woman two rows away wore hers during the entire 5 hour flight. Fedoras! They LOVE them!

We have our own questionable fashion trends in Manhattan, too, so I guess I shouldn't poke fun. Most notably:
--Huge, huge, HUGE handbags (although one could probably fit at least 20 severed hands in there) with so much metal hardware it weighs 40 pounds. Buckles and jangles and studs, oh my.

--The leggings-as-pants look.

Just...no.

--And I'm guilty of this one myself--the used shopping bag to carry around all your crap, as if you happened to purchase something from Chanel just minutes ago.
I can't help it. It's too convenient to carry it and ditch the bag when you no longer need the contents. I won't stop! You can't make me!

How about your town? Any particular trends you've noticed?

LOL! I always used the little shopping bags to carry my lunch to work. SO much cuter than anything you could buy for that purpose, but I did draw the line at Victoria's Secret.

I don't see much in the way of trends here, or at least I don't know if they are also trends in the US. Longer t-shirts seem to be back in style and I'm very excited about that, but I'm guessing men still aren't wearing Speedos back home?

Do you often suspect a handbag near you is filled with severed hands? Sure, I get the joke. But you ARE in NYC, you know.

Fake Crocs. EVERYWHERE. And in hideous colors, like lime green or electric blue.

Hollister and Abercrombie shirts. I see them everywhere now that my oldest daughter is in 5th grade. HS kids I get, but 5th graders? And thanks for sharing your HI pics, Wendy. Looks like you had a great time.

Melanie--No Speedos on men at the beach yet. My daughter swims on a team so I see lots of them at the pool.

Janna--Crocs, how I hate them. I don't see them here so much anymore. Only on kids.

Amy--I had to really think about what I see HS kids in my neighborhood wearing to school. Many (most?) of them are either a) wearing uniforms during the week or b) away at boarding school. Huh. That makes me even *more* out of it, I guess.

My husband's begun wearing a cowboy hat. So the trend here is rubbing off on HIM.

Oh yes, we have Crocs here too.

Hi Wendy!

That big handbag I've noticed in my area. In fact I almost got into a fight with a woman one day at the drugstore because of it. She was standing in line in front of me with a huge bag over her shoulder. It was really sticking out. As she was walking away after paying for her items, I accidentally collided with her. (actually with her bag) Now, mind you, it was an accident. She said, "You almost knocked me over." (as if I did it on purpose)

Yeah. Right.
